The Tocumwal Foreshore |
|
The Tocumwal Foreshore is managed and maintained by the Foreshore Committee, which is a non-profit organisation consisting of a small enthusiastic group, who are responsible for the area from the Town Beach to the Old Bridge in Tocumwal. The Foreshore Park The Wharf and Boat Ramp Area This picturesque area has been used as a backdrop for many Wedding and Wedding Portraits over the years. Ongoing improvements are still high on the agenda with the committee who are hoping to enter a second stage of development in the near future. The enhancement of a down stream side of the boat ramps and parking area. Implementation of a signed walking track with billboards from the wharf area along the scenic river walk to the town beach are a recent addition. There is a concrete boat ramp in the Wharf Area which is accessible at all River levels. Access to the Boat Ramp and Wharf Area is via a bitumen road adjacent to the newsagency and boat trailer parking is available at the top of the Wharf Area. The Big Cod You've heard of The Big Banana, The Big Merino and The Big Prawn - Tocumwal has The Big Cod. Erected in 1968, The Big Cod stands as a constant reminder that the biggest Murray Cod ever caught, was from the Murray River at Tocumwal. See read about The Big Cod >>> click here The Glider It has stood in the Town square as a reminder of this adopted locals achievement, and as acknowledgement of a local industry that has people from all around the world coming to enjoy the Great Gliding facilities available to them here in Tocumwal. The maintenance, cleaning and repairs have been a Foreshore project since it was installed. B-B-Q Facilities Takeaway Food Light meals, coffee, drinks and take-away food are available seven days a week. Stage & Lighting Town Beach Amenities include camping bays, toilets and cold showers and although considered a little primitive, these amenities are under water for many months during the winter so there are many restrictions on what can be made in the way of improvements. Camping is allowed all year round with a restriction of 60 sites, fees are payable at the Tourist Centre, in the main street. Government regulations do NOT allow dogs at Town Beach. |
